MADISON…State Representative Jerry L. O’Connor (R-Fond du Lac) issued the following statement on the passage of the constitutional amendment on Voter ID:

“Republicans are ensuring it’s easy to vote but hard to cheat.

Today I was proud to vote for a constitutional amendment to require a valid ID to vote in Wisconsin elections. This will enshrine the current photo ID law in the Wisconsin constitution (Voters will experience no changes to the ID requirements in place for the last decade).

Voter ID is a common-sense measure to protect the integrity of our elections, promote confidence in the electoral process, and, according to a recent Pew Research Center poll, is supported by 81% of Americans. IDs are already required to purchase alcohol or cigarettes, open a bank account, get married, donate blood, and apply for FoodShare, Medicaid, BadgerCare, and Social Security.

Contrary to the claims of opponents, IDs suitable for voting are free and easy to obtain. For additional info on where and how to obtain your free ID for voting, click here or call the voter ID hotline: (844) 588-1069.

Voter ID will be a referendum on the April 2025 ballot where the people of Wisconsin will have the final say on enshrining this critical measure to ensure the integrity of our elections.”
