Madison, WI—Representative Jerry O’Connor (R-Fond du Lac) released the following statement after the Annual Fiscal Report prepared by the Department of Administration reported a $4.6 billion surplus in the General Fund:

“The $4.6 billion surplus is a result of strong fiscal responsibility by Legislative Republicans over the past decade. This surplus from Fiscal Year 2025, which ended June 30th, 2025, is what allowed us to pass the historic investments that we did in the 2025-27 Budget. This money has already been allocated and is hard at work providing for essential services Wisconsinites depend on every day.”

“Contrary to how the Governor has misleadingly framed this report, this is not new money nor is it in a result of his fiscal planning If our tax-and-spend Governor had enacted his proposed budgets, we would have a scarily different report and fiscally dire situation to discuss.

“It is thanks to numerous legislatures, past and present, that Wisconsin remains fiscally sound.”
