MADISON, Wis – Today, Representative Palmeri co-authored, along with Assembly Democrats, the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives bill package to help working families in the 54th district and across our state. The three-bill package would reduce the tax burden for renters and homeowners by expanding the Homestead Tax Credit, and cut the costs of grocery bills for families by enacting Healthy School Meals for All, and decrease prescription drug prices through the Less for Rx agenda.
Representative Lori Palmeri (D- Oshkosh 54th District) released the following statement regarding the package:
“In the 54th District and around the State, folks have made it clear they want action to help save on groceries and prescription drugs, afford their homes, and improve their lives. Today, I, along with other assembly Democrats, co-authored a three bill package named, “Lowering costs, Improving Lives”, which will help working families, seniors, all people in our district as well as folk from every corner of the state.”
“As the cost of living has risen, legislators have a responsibility to work towards ways to ensure people have the freedom, opportunity, and economic security to thrive”.
Prescription costs, especially for critical prescriptions, have risen substantially and these high costs can lead to people making difficult decisions like skipping a dose to make their prescription last a bit longer; the Prescription bill would help ensure that doesn’t happen.
“District residents and all state residents should never have to choose between purchasing necessary medications and putting food on their family’s table. As I talked with voters this past year, they made that clear.”
Representative Palmeri and other Democrats also offered expanding the Homestead Tax Credit to provide targeted relief for people who need it most.
“Working families are in dire need to save on their grocery bills. The Healthy School Meals for All is a common sense proposal that provides for balanced and nutritious meals at school, saving the average family some of their hard earned money. The USDA estimates this would save families with children $154 a month per child, or $1848 annually per school Year. I’m proud to be working on the first of many proposals we intend to introduce to make sure we give Wisconsin working families financial relief, helping to improve the lives of people around the state.”
