MADISON, Wis. – Today, the Assembly Committee on Forestry, Parks and Outdoor Recreation held a public hearing for the Republican-authored bill that would reauthorize the widely popular, historically bipartisan Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. Rep. Palmeri released the following statement:

“I am glad to see that Republicans are taking the reauthorization of the bipartisan, popular Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program seriously. Though I think this bill could be improved upon, this is a good starting point for making sure our children, grandchildren, and all future generations are able to enjoy the great Wisconsin outdoors like we have.

“Speakers today highlighted areas that could be improved, including the prioritization of projects and the exact mechanisms of the legislative oversight process. I think this is a step forward for protecting our public lands, and I hope there will be further negotiations on how this bill can best do so.”
