MADISON, WI. – On Tuesday, Assembly Democrats introduced legislation that would re-authorize the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program for another 6 years at $72 million. This conservation program has seen bipartisan support for over 35 years and has served to protect and preserve Wisconsin’s natural beauty. Rep. Palmeri provided the following statement:

“The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program is instrumental in preserving our natural spaces: lakes, rivers, forests, State Parks, and more. Whether you’re an angler, camper, hiker, hunter, kayaker, or something in between, you have seen the benefits of this program firsthand,” Palmeri said.

“Knowles-Nelson also protects access to public recreation areas. Over the life of the program, my district has seen nearly 6 million dollars in investment. Access to outdoor spaces like Asylum Bay, Steiger Park, and the Oshkosh Riverwalk have been guaranteed by these investments, as well as overall navigational access to Lake Winnebago and the Fox River. This program truly is for everyone,”

“We can all appreciate our natural landscape, so I was disappointed that Republicans removed this funding from the most recent budget process. This bill provides a meaningful start for negotiations and I hope my colleagues across the aisle will come to the table to preserve Wisconsin’s natural beauty for generations to come.”
