Madison, WI — State Representative William Penterman (R-Hustisford) announced the Assembly’s support for a handful of bills he authored that support veterans and teachers with bipartisan support.

Assembly Bills 596 and 597 create a statewide grant program to support the Veterans Housing and Recovery Program (VHRP), ensuring that veterans, regardless of their geographic location in our state, have access to critical housing and recovery resources. “These bills ensure that veterans can access the housing, recovery, and support services they deserve,” Penterman said. “These bills passed my committee unanimously and have now unanimously passed the Wisconsin State Assembly.”

Assembly Bill 32 (AB 32), authored by Rep. Penterman, guarantees military recruiters fair access to common areas in Wisconsin high schools, providing parity with other recruiting institutions. “It is imperative that we support future servicemembers by ensuring they have the access to military recruiters to get their questions answered and paperwork completed in a timely manner,” said Rep. Penterman. “Our nation depends on a strong volunteer military. I am proud this bipartisan bill is now headed to the governor’s desk.”

Assembly Bill 518 (AB 518) creates consistent standards for individuals seeking a substitute teacher license, ensuring equal requirements across public and private choice schools, as currently the requirements are not the same. “If someone is qualified to substitute teach in a public school, they should be qualified to do the same in a private choice school,” Penterman said. “It is already hard enough to find great substitute teachers.”

Rep. Penterman will continue advocating for policies rooted in fiscal responsibility, support for veterans, and strong communities.
