MADISON, WI – Representative Christian Phelps (D-Eau Claire) joined Assembly Democrats at the Capitol to roll out a series of bills aimed directly at the most pressing needs of constituents in the 93rd Assembly District: public education, grocery costs, healthcare and prescription drugs, and the cost of housing.

Rep. Phelps is a lead author on the Healthy School Meals for All bill (LRB-1300/P1). He issued the following statement:

“As a longtime advocate for public education and for the next generation of Wisconsinites, I know that providing healthy meals at school for every child is one of the most meaningful ways to support their success.

“With this legislative session comes a big opportunity to govern in a way that reflects the priorities and needs in our communities. Constituents in the 93rd know that every single child deserves the best, and that starts with nutritious meals that allow each of them to learn, grow, and thrive, putting kids first and taking the burden off of individual parents and families at a time of economic hardship.

“I have participated in the coalition work to advance Healthy School Meals for All as a community advocate for years, and it’s an honor to follow the leadership of Rep. Hong in turning our vision for a community that cares for all children into reality. If you agree with the large and growing coalition of Wisconsinites who believe all children deserve healthy school meals and strong public schools, urge your legislators of both parties to join us in passing this crucial bill.”
