Mexico City, Mexico—Representative Priscilla A. Prado (D-Wisconsin) joined distinguished leaders from across the U.S. Southwest and Mexico today as a panelist at the Mexican-American Policy Alliance Summit in Mexico City. The conference convened elected officials, nonprofit and business leaders, and policy experts from both sides of the aisle to strengthen binational relations and address shared policy challenges.
“I believe that our identity as Mexican-Americans is a source of strength for Wisconsin and for the broader U.S.-Mexico relationship,” said Rep. Prado. “By investing in our communities and approaching diplomacy as partners rather than outsiders, we create better outcomes for everyone.”
Representing Wisconsin’s 9th District—a majority-Hispanic community in the city of Milwaukee—Rep. Prado illustrated how local support for immigrant safety, small businesses, and bilingual services have made a measurable difference among Mexican-Americans.
“Especially as Latinos face growing challenges and scrutiny at the federal level, it is my job to defend their right to dignity here in Wisconsin. States have the moment right now to be champions in protecting peoples’ rights and providing opportunity.”
Although the discussions centered on U.S. Southwest/Mexico relations, Rep. Prado highlighted that states like Wisconsin also have strong Mexican-American communities who face similar issues.
“Listening to Mexican leaders reinforces the importance of our two countries’ relationship, both in addressing our shared challenges and in building a more prosperous future for both nations,” said Rep. Prado. “Our communities are, and have always been, socially and economically resilient. I am honored to be their advocate in Wisconsin, and Wisconsin’s advocate here in Mexico.”
