MADISON, Wis. – After the Trump Administration significantly increased ICE presence in Los Angeles, California and deployed the National Guard against protestors, Representative Priscilla A. Prado released the following statement:
“I am devastated to know of the conduct of ICE and the National Guard over the weekend in my hometown of Los Angeles, California. Separating children from their parents and keeping them inside basement facilities with unknown living conditions does not make America great, and it should not be considered normal.
“The Trump Administration disregarding California Governor Gavin Newsom’s request to remove the National Guard from the city raises serious concerns of states’ rights and sovereignty. In a sanctuary city, the deployment has created a major escalation that is leading to more outrage and disorder.
“Los Angeles, like most major cities in America, was built by the very same community that is being shamed, disrespected, and subject to inhumane practices. We are told to ‘come here legally’, but are then arrested surprisingly, aggressively, and unlawfully despite attempts to follow this country’s broken immigration system.
“In the face of adversity, our community will remain resilient. We are more than just housekeepers and construction workers—we have forever shaped the fabric of Los Angeles culture.
“Everyone has the right to free speech and protest. All the way from Wisconsin, I stand in support of the people of Los Angeles as a proud Angeleno.”
