“I am deeply heartened by the Supreme Court’s decision, because just like in Green Bay, love is still winning. Our city continues to show that we take care of one another regardless of who you love, what language you speak, how you arrived here, or how much money you make. These decisions affirm those Green Bay values and remind us that compassion, dignity, and equality are not partisan; they are the foundation of our shared community.
At a time when division is at an all-time high, it’s frustrating to see some attempt to peddle hatred in the form of court cases aimed at taking away the rights of people, like me, to marry the person we love. The idea that anyone would try to void the love and commitment I share with my husband just to score political points is profoundly sad.
I’m grateful that today’s decision by the Supreme Court reaffirms what so many of us already know to be true: love and equity are the law of the land.”
