Madison – In a ceremony held today in the Wisconsin State Capitol, Amaad Rivera-Wagner (D-Green Bay) was sworn in as the new State Representative serving the Green Bay area’s 90th Assembly District.

“I am beyond honored to represent Green Bay in Madison. I want to thank my community for the tremendous honor, and I will do all I can to make Green Bay proud. I can’t wait to get to work,” Rivera-Wagner said.

In one of his first acts as a State Representative, Rivera-Wagner joined thirteen others in voting against the Republican-proposed legislative calendar.  Under Republican leadership, Wisconsin’s Legislature has been called the least-active full-time legislature in the country.

“Wisconsin has a full-time legislature; it is time that our work schedule actually reflects that,” stated Rivera-Wagner.

Prior to taking office, Rivera-Wagner served as Chief of Staff to Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, Co-Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force for the Green Bay Chamber and founding Co-Chair of the non-profit Advocacy Council for the United Way of Brown County. He lives in Green Bay with his husband, William, and two dogs.  Rivera-Wagner is the first openly gay Black man ever elected to the Wisconsin State Legislature.

The 90th Assembly District covers much of the City of Green Bay.  The seat was open after Rep. Kristina Shelton (D-Green Bay) announced that she would not run for re-election. Video of the Capitol swearing-in can be found at wiseye.org.
