Madison, Wis: Today, Chairman Thomas Fowler of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin delivered the 21st annual State of the Tribes address. The annual State of the Tribes address is an opportunity for the people of Wisconsin to understand the unique challenges facing Wisconsin’s Native inhabitants and is an honored tradition that strengthens the relationship between our state government and Wisconsin’s sovereign tribal nations.

After the address, Rep. Roe (D-Janesville) stated: “It was an absolute pleasure to listen to Chairman Fowler’s address as he reminded the legislature that we share common values with all our tribes. Like our tribes, I also believe harm reduction is public health and healthy communities benefit us all”

Wisconsin has 11 sovereign nations with 86,000 tribal members living here. Fowler applauded Governor Evers’ efforts towards clean water, education and health services for all tribal members.

Like Fowler, Roe believes “when we support each other, we build a stronger Wisconsin for all.”
