Madison, Wis. – Representative Ann Roe supported new legislation launched today to protect the rights and freedoms of all Wisconsinites in response to President Trump’s disastrous agenda.
“While President Trump and Republicans play politics with the futures of our children and our country, as a state representative I am joining my colleagues in pushing back and working to protect all Wisconsinites from the catastrophic effects of such games,” Roe said.
The bill package announced today includes four bills aimed at proactively reducing harm by taking liens on federal properties when federal funds are withheld. Federal funds are often a huge component of programs like Head Start classrooms and road repair and building projects. Such liens give Wisconsin leverage to protect its budget and fulfill its promise to families, educators, and workers in the face of federal unlawful action.
In addition, when the federal government delays payment of $28 billion to Wisconsin, the state, in turn, will delay payment of the over $69 billion it sends to the federal government.
“And this bill package addresses a concern most Wisconsinites have about data privacy. This legislation ensures Wisconsin will protect its residents from potential federal overreach as it relates to data privacy—something that should be a shared bipartisan goal,” Roe commented.
The fourth piece of legislation aims to protect the personal freedoms and individual liberties guaranteed by our state and federal constitutions. Under this bill, private citizens will have a path for recourse when their fundamental rights are violated.
“When Congress says the money is coming, states should be able to count on it. The Protect Wisconsinites Package announced today helps ensure we can keep child care centers open, pay public workers and deliver essential services—in other words, do the work the people elect us to do and keep our communities thriving,” Roe said.
