Madison, Wis. – UAW Local 95 Unit 12 Mercyhealth Clinic-East workers held a rally at the Wisconsin State Capitol today as they entered their ninth week of striking. Representative Ann Roe (D-Janesville) joined the striking workers, union leaders, supporters, state legislators, and Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez.

Over 130 striking healthcare workers at Mercyhealth Clinic-East are asking for security in the workplace, affordable healthcare benefits, and a wage increase to reflect the increasing cost of living.

Representative Ann Roe (D-Janesville) spoke at the rally and said:

“It’s simple. UAW 95 Unit 12 at Mercyhealth Clinic-East in Janesville is asking for a safe work environment that protects patients and workers. They are always looking out for their patients.

They are asking for a modest raise to keep up with the rising costs that my fellow legislators across the aisle choose to ignore, and a for break in their health premiums to make those premiums more affordable for themselves and their families.

Unions built Wisconsin. Unions built Janesville. Unions lift all workers as they stand for livable wages, family supporting jobs, and affordable healthcare. The math is simple. Invest in our capable, compassionate frontline support workers, and who benefits? The patients, the community, and Wisconsin.

I know Mercyhealth can make conscientious and responsible choices in serving our community. So today, I am asking Mercyhealth to put their money where their mouth is and do the right thing. Support these frontline healthcare workers, their families, and your patients.”

UAW Local 95 President Judy McRoberts spoke at the rally stating:

“We asked Javon Bea, who makes $13 million a year, and his 12 vice presidents, that make $450,000 a year – plus perks, to listen up and come to the table and deal with us. We are not asking for much we just want a fair deal.”

Lieutenant Governor Sara Rodriguez said:

“I want to thank every nurse, therapist, tech, and staff member for fighting – not just for yourselves but for your patients. Because this fight is more than just paychecks. It’s about safe staffing so patients can get the care that they need. It is also about making sure people who care for others don’t have to risk their own health and safety at work. And it is about saying no to burnout and yes to dignity.”
