MADISON, Wis. — Today, Governor Tony Evers approved a new emergency rule to combat lead poisoning statewide and directed $5 million in funding to support the Well Compensation and Well Abandonment Grant Program. Furthermore, Governor Evers announced in the State of the State, that the 2025-2027 budget will include a $6.2 million increase in grants to local governments to improve water quality. Rep. Ann Roe (D-Janesville) applauds this effort and knows more needs to be done to address clean water in the future.
After the emergency rule and funding were declared Rep. Roe stated: “Like affordable housing, food, childcare, and education; clean water is an essential need. We need to especially protect our children and give them the best foundation for their future roles as our community leaders.”
“Lead in our drinking water is unacceptable. Governor Evers’ proposal is another example of what should be a bipartisan solution.”
