Madison, WI – Yesterday, the Wisconsin State Assembly held its first session of 2025 on a bill that would place voter ID requirements into the Wisconsin Constitution. Wisconsin already has a state statute requiring photo identification when voting. The bill puts this constitutional amendment on the April ballot for voters to consider.

Rep. Roe cast her vote against the bill.

The League of Women Voters, The Wisconsin Council for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources, the ACLU, and Wisconsin Conservation Voters all opposed this bill.

After the vote, Rep. Roe released the following statement:

“I’ve always used the same critical lens throughout my career: what is the problem and how are you helping our stakeholders, in this case, Wisconsinites? This legislation solves nothing. Wisconsin already has a strict voter ID law on the books and amending the Wisconsin Constitution is not good legislating and not what Wisconsin wants.”

“People have told me they want legislation for affordable, quality childcare, housing, healthcare, and to fully fund education,” Roe added.
