Howard, WI—Today, State Representative David Steffen (R-Howard) joined fellow Assembly Republicans at a press conference regarding plans to pass a constitutional amendment requiring voter ID in Wisconsin elections. This is the second consideration of such a constitutional amendment and is the next step in placing the measure on voter ballots in the spring.
“I am honored to join my Republican colleagues in bringing forth this critical election integrity measure. While Wisconsin has successfully implemented voter ID requirements for over a decade, enshrining voter ID into our state constitution will ensure that the security and integrity of our elections is constitutionally protected. A functioning democracy requires full faith in our electoral process and voter ID is a proven method for securing that process,” said Rep. Steffen.
Under the proposed constitutional amendment, valid photographic identification would be required by the state constitution when voting in Wisconsin. The amendment makes no changes to voter ID exceptions that are already in statute and maintains the ability of voters who do not have valid identification on Election Day to cast a provisional ballot.
