MADISON, WI – Today, the Joint Committee on Finance held an Executive Session and moved to remove 612 items from Governor Evers’ proposed 2025-2027 Executive Budget. Representative Shelia Stubbs (D-Madison) released the following statement:
“Today the Joint Committee on Finance held an Executive Session and passed a motion to remove 612 items in Governor Evers’ Executive Budget from further consideration. These 612 items represent critical funds for education, healthcare, environmental protection, workforce development, victims’ services, housing support, infrastructure, and so many other key areas necessary to the health, well-being, and success of every single resident of our state.
Among the items removed by a majority of Joint Finance members are numerous provisions that I have long advocated for in our Capitol, including the creation of an Office of Violence Prevention, the creation of a Missing and Murdered African American Women and Girls Task Force, universal background checks, a 48-hour waiting period on the purchase of handguns, the Birth Equity Act, and increased funding for crime victims’ services.
As a state we have a responsibility to ensure that Wisconsinites have the resources and support necessary to participate in the workforce, raise their families, stay healthy, and keep their neighborhoods safe. We cannot afford to stop investing in our communities, in our families, and in our workforce. I will continue to advocate for properly funding the programs that keep moving our state forward, and I will continue to introduce legislation that strengthens our communities.”
