MADISON – Today, in his seventh State of the State address since taking office in 2019, Governor Tony Evers reflected on the past six years and announced several new initiatives to improve the lives of working families in Wisconsin. Representative Lisa Subeck released the following statement:
“Tonight, Governor Evers made clear that the Democratic vision for Wisconsin is one where our kids are cared for, our streets are safe, and working families can get ahead.
I was thrilled to see that the Governor continues to prioritize bringing down the cost of living for all Wisconsinites, particularly those struggling to afford the cost of prescription drugs. He has always been a great partner on our Less for RX initiative, which will cut the cost of lifesaving drugs like insulin and Epi-Pens.
With Wisconsin families struggling to make ends meet, we are taking action to lower one of the biggest expenses that parents face: childcare. Last session, we worked across the aisle to expand the child and dependent care tax credit, and I am proud to say that working parents will start to see some extra cash in their pocket starting this tax season as a result of that effort.
Governor Evers declared 2025 the Year of the Kid, and the timing could not be better to refocus our efforts on our children, their well-being, and their safety. Gov. Evers’s proposed $300 million toward mental health services in schools will go a long way to prevent tragedies like suicides and school shootings.
As our community begins the process of recovering from a deadly school shooting, we must act to ensure that we keep guns out of the hands of our kids, and anyone with intent to do harm.”
Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District, and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
