MADISON – Today, Democratic Representatives and Senators unveiled their first major package of bills that would help working families in Wisconsin afford everyday necessities like food, housing, and prescription drugs. Included in the Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package are three bills that would reduce the tax burden for low-income renters and homeowners, lower grocery bills for the families of school-aged children, and cut the cost of prescription drugs for all Wisconsinites.
“Democrats in the legislature are fighting for a Wisconsin where working families can get ahead and seniors can retire with dignity,” said Rep. Subeck (D-Madison). “The Lowering Costs, Improving Lives package lays out a vision for our state in which everyone can afford their rent or their mortgage without having to skip a meal or ration their medication.”
Representative Subeck, alongside Rep. Ryan Spaude (D-Ashwaubenon) and Rep. Tara Johnson (D-Town of Shelby), introduced Less for Rx, a wide-ranging bill that would bring down the cost of prescription drugs in Wisconsin. The proposed legislation follows recommendations of Governor Evers’s Task Force on Reducing Prescription Drug Prices and includes a range of measures including the creation of the Office of Prescription Drug Affordability and the Prescription Drug Review Board, capping the cost of insulin, and streamlining the prescription drug importation process.
“Every Wisconsinite should have access to high-quality health care at a price they can afford, and no one should be forced to choose between filling their prescriptions and putting food on the table,” said Rep. Subeck, “It is unconscionable that any patient should need to skip a dose or postpone an appointment with their doctor because they can’t afford it.”
Rep. Subeck represents the 79th Assembly District, and serves as Chair of the Assembly Democratic Caucus.
