After 9 hours of testimony going late into the night, Republicans on the Assembly Health, Aging, and Long Term Care Committee reconvened to pass Assembly Bill 104, a bill that would ban access to gender-affirming medical care for transgender youth.
Representative Lisa Subeck released the following statement:
“Republicans are all too willing to use kids as political pawns, putting their extreme agenda ahead of our children and families. The medical community and the data agree that gender-affirming care saves lives, and the harm caused by banning this critical care is all too real.
We heard 9 hours of testimony from children and families who would be harmed by this dangerous and unnecessary legislation, yet Republicans are fast tracking it with a vote the very next morning.
We want trans kids and their families to know that we have your backs and will do everything we can to ensure that you have access to the health care that you need.”
