Madison, WI – Representative Rob Swearingen (R – Rhinelander) released the following statement after Governor Evers delivered his 2025-2027 biennial budget address:

“Once again, Governor Evers has proposed a budget that expands government while misleading Wisconsinites into thinking he’s providing real tax relief. His so-called ‘investments’ are nothing more than bloated government programs that will cost taxpayers billions in the long run. We’ve seen this playbook before—Evers talks about tax cuts while vetoing meaningful middle-class relief and locking Wisconsin into unsustainable spending that will inevitably lead to higher taxes down the road,” said Rep. Swearingen.

Governor Evers urged action on PFAS contamination, warning that delays make it worse. He proposed $145 million to strengthen groundwater standards and provide emergency aid to affected communities.

“The only one delaying PFAS relief is the Governor himself. Republicans allocated $125 million last session to fight PFAS in Wisconsin, Governor Evers vetoed the plan, putting bureaucratic control ahead of the needs of Wisconsinites.”

Last week, Rep Swearingen and several Republican legislators circulated two proposals that aim to combat PFAS in public and private water systems while protecting innocent landowners.

“If the Governor actually cares about solving PFAS, he would support this legislation,” stated Rep. Swearingen.

The Joint Committee on Finance, the state’s budget-writing committee, will soon hold listening sessions in multiple locations around the state to gather public input from Wisconsinites.

“I encourage my constituents to attend listening sessions in their area, and I look forward to hearing what they would like to see included in the next biennial budget.”
