Madison, WI – Representative Rob Swearingen (R – Rhinelander) released the following statement after Governor Tony Evers addressed a joint session of the Wisconsin State Legislature for his annual State of the State address.
“The state of the state is strong, thanks to legislative Republicans who have passed fiscally responsible budgets, provided tax cuts, and bolstered the workforce.
Rep. Swearingen highlighted that Wisconsin’s current fiscal position was heavily influenced and shaped by legislative Republicans, contrary to the governor’s assertions.
“Tonight, Governor Evers misled Wisconsinites to believe his administration is a champion of tax cuts and economic prosperity. Last session, he vetoed several critical middle-class tax cuts that would have put nearly $1000 back into the pocket of each Wisconsin household. I am disappointed that the governor continues to play politics, only to later take credit for the hard work of legislative Republicans.
As the legislative session begins, Representative Swearingen is committed to addressing key issues facing the Northwoods.
“The Northwoods continues to be the best area of the state to live, work, and raise a family. I will remain committed to ensuring that the issues most affecting our northern communities remain at the forefront of the legislative agenda.”
