Madison, WI- Representative Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) is pleased to advance a proposal related to election observers though the Assembly.
“This bill is simple. We are attaching a penalty for interference to existing election laws,” said Tittl. “We must ensure that election observers are getting a fair chance to observe at the polls, recounts and canvassing.”
Current law requires the clerk or chief inspector to designate an observation area that is not less than three feet and no more than eight feet from the tables where voters announce their name, address, and register to vote.
Tittl’s bill provides 90 days in county jail or $1,000 fine for any election official who violates current law regarding placement and location of the observation area. The bill passed the Assembly on a voice vote.
The 25th Assembly District includes portions of Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
