Madison, WI- Representative Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) and Senator Andre Jacque (R-New Franken) have introduced a bill allowing adopted children who have attained the age of 18 the right to obtain a copy of their original, unaltered birth certificate.
“Adult adoptees should have a right to know who their biological parents are,” said Tittl. “Imagine what it would be like to not know one single person you are related to.”
Over the last several years, a number of states have changed their laws, and several now allow adopted children to access their original, unaltered birth certificate (Alabama, Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon and Rhode Island). The co-sponsorship period for this bill ends on July 31, 2025.
The 25th Assembly District includes portions of Manitowoc and Sheboygan Counties.
