Madison, WI- Representative Paul Tittl (R-Manitowoc) and Senator Jesse James (R-Thorp) have secured $100,000 in the 2025-2027 State Budget for farmer mental health assistance. This budget item will support vital services for farmers including:

  • 24-hour helpline,
  • Online tele-counseling sessions, and
  • In-person counseling vouchers for farmers and families.

“Supporting farmers means supporting farmer mental health,” said Tittl. “Not many people understand the toll farming takes on mental health, this motion reaffirms the state’s commitment to stand with Wisconsin famers.”

The program also includes virtual education for Ag. service providers, peer support groups for farmers, and an agricultural mental health podcast. This funding will raise awareness and resilience across the farming sector.

“I am proud to support our Wisconsin farmers,” said James. “They face unique mental health challenges due to the uncertainty and stress of farming life. This has led to higher suicide rates and diminished mental health outcomes. Several proven initiatives and resources are available to support their well-being. This funding allows continued assistance here in Wisconsin.”
