MADISON, WI – Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed a constitutional amendment provision that safeguards the requirement for photo ID to be used in all Wisconsin elections.  State Representative Travis Tranel (R-Cuba City), who has supported photo ID legislation during his tenure in office, was happy to cast his vote for the resolution approving the amendment, which passed 54-45.

“Photo ID is a common-sense safeguard that the people of Southwest Wisconsin appreciate and want to see continue as part of a secure election process in our state,” said Rep. Tranel.  “It should be easy to vote but hard to cheat, and that’s why this amendment should be adopted by the voters.”

For nearly a decade, photo ID has been the law of the land in Wisconsin and worked extremely well, seeing record voter participation in many recent elections.  However, with the increase of activist judges on the courts, the current law in Wisconsin may be in jeopardy if not protected by a constitutional amendment the people approve.

Now that both the Assembly and Senate have approved the resolution on the ballot for a second consecutive legislative session, the proposed constitutional amendment will be placed on the April 2025 ballot to give the people the opportunity to approve or reject the change to the Wisconsin State Constitution.
