MADISON – Representative Ron Tusler (R–Harrison) has announced that Deputy Dylan
Olson of the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office has been named the Third Assembly District’s
2025 First Responder of the Year. Deputy Olson is being recognized for his consistent
leadership and proactive service, in particular, his swift, life-saving actions during a June 2025
incident involving a person in crisis.

“Deputy Olson’s professionalism, compassion, and commitment to protecting others exemplify
the very best of our law enforcement community,” said Rep. Tusler. “His actions not only saved
a life that night but also strengthened the trust and safety of our entire community. Deputy Olson
leads by example, not only in his work on patrol, but also in his community service. From
mentoring cadets to volunteering with COPS, he embodies the spirit of exceptional service. It is
an honor to recognize him as the Third Assembly District’s First Responder of the Year.”

While on patrol on a June evening, Deputy Olson noticed a vehicle parked in the Menasha
Conservancy parking lot, an unusual sight at that hour. Acting on his instincts and training, he
stopped to investigate and discovered a vehicle with tubes leading from the exhaust into the
cabin, a clear sign of a potential suicide attempt. Deputy Olson made contact with the occupant,
who was in the midst of a mental health crisis, and ensured the individual received the help they
needed. His decisive action and compassionate response undoubtedly saved a life.

Deputy Olson joined the Calumet County Sheriff’s Office in August 2023. Earlier this year, he
completed Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Training in Appleton, which played a vital role in
his ability to respond effectively to this incident. Beyond this heroic act, Deputy Olson has
proven to be an outstanding member of the department. He leads the agency in impaired driving
arrests for 2025, serves as a lead mentor for the Calumet County Public Safety Cadets, and
volunteers with Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS). He was also recently selected to
become a Field Training Officer, helping to mentor and train the next generation of deputies.

Deputy Olson was honored at the State Capitol in Madison during the annual First Responder
of the Year recognition ceremony, where first responders from across Wisconsin are celebrated
for their extraordinary service to their communities.
