Madison, Wis. – after President Trump met with Vladimir Putin in Alaska, he claimed he would end mail-in voting in the United States at Putin’s recommendation.

Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:

“Ending mail-in voting would disenfranchise millions of Americans, including our elderly, our neighbors with disabilities, our active military and students overseas, and anyone who struggles to reach a voting location within operational hours. Of course this would be suggested by a dictator like Putin known for his endless wars against Democracy.

“As stated by our Constitution, presidents hold no authority to alter elections. Congress may pass laws regarding Presidential and Congressional elections, and state-level races are entirely determined by the states themselves. However, Trump’s threats prove once again that Republicans are terrified of free and fair midterms in 2026.

“Whether or not Trump likes it, America is a Democracy. Voters have the right and the power to hold him accountable for his administration and his actions.”
