MADISON, Wis – on July 4th, President Trump signed a spending bill he entitled the “Big Beautiful Bill.”
Representative Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:
“This spending bill is a nightmare of political tactics. The Medicaid cuts will cause 17 million of its 78 million enrollees to lose health insurance. These are children, working-age and elderly people who cannot afford their medical bills, and their government dollars often keep rural hospitals open. These cuts will be seen in late 2027 – after the midterms.
“Conservatives laud their ‘no tax on tips,’ an exaggerated capped deductible which also expires after the midterms. Republicans know they will lose nationwide in 2027, so they are delaying the worst effects of their economic policies until that time.
“Finally, spending $160 billion on ‘immigration enforcement’ is ludicrous. Over and over, ICE has targeted lawful residents with no criminal record – if eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse was ever truly the goal, this agency would be the first to receive cuts. ICE’s politicized purpose is to escalate through mass deportation and mass intimidation against the federal administration’s opponents.
“If any of my constituents have an altercation with ICE, I highly encourage them to reach out to my office or Rep. Mark Pocan’s office immediately.”
