MADISON, Wis. — On May 29th, legislative Democrats introduced six bills in their Equality Agenda package. These bills include a constitutional amendment to protect same-sex marriage, eliminating the so-called “gay panic” legal defense, and a resolution to recognize June 2025 as LGBTQ+ Pride Month in commemoration of the Stonewall uprising.
Representative Randy Udell (D-Fitchburg) released the following statement:
“I am so happy to introduce this legislation alongside my fellow LGBTQ+ Caucus members. Wisconsin still lacks basic protections for LGBTQ+ people, including state-level marriage equality and equal rights for same-sex adoptive parents. In the face of scapegoating and fearmongering from the federal level, we must continue to fight for progress.
“The federal government would like to claim Wisconsin citizens do not care about our neighbors. I staunchly disagree.”
