MADISON, Wis. — On June 24th, Assembly Republicans passed four bills to create new state programs but voted against amendments to fund these programs, including youth safety resources and investments in psychiatric residential treatment facilities. This took place less than one week after Senate Republicans walked out of state budget negotiations.
Representative Udell (D-47th District) issued the following statement:
“Legislative Republicans refuse to put money where their mouth is. They pay lip service to essential state programs, then they slash funds to public schools, child care centers, and Wisconsin universities.
“The truth is, they have no plan. They’ve allowed far-right members to derail productive conversations about meeting our state’s needs. We must pass a budget to strengthen our public school system beyond endless referendums, to invest in child care so providers can stay open, and to support Wisconsin universities as drivers of our state’s economy.”
