MADISON, Wis. — Today, the Wisconsin State Assembly passed a number of bipartisan healthcare bills, including allowing pharmacists to prescribe certain contraceptives and establishing a palliative care council.

Rep. Randy Udell (D-47th District) released the following statement:

“Today, we saw that bipartisan efforts can build effective, necessary, commonsense policy for Wisconsin. Despite fringe Republican dissent, we passed legislation to ease access to birth control and establish a palliative care council.

“However, this session took place under the shadow of a budgetary crisis. Joint Finance Committee Republicans shot down 612 budget items including $480 million in childcare funding, and they proposed a childcare tax credit in its place that would benefit corporations instead of childcare providers under threat of closure.

“I will not rest on any laurels. On the federal and state levels, we must fight to lower costs for Wisconsin families.”
