MADISON, Wis. – This week, the Joint Finance Committee voted 12-4 along party lines against Governor Evers’ proposed education investments.

Representative Randy Udell (D-Fitchburg) released the following statement:

“Joint Finance Committee Republicans are failing our students. Their proposal includes no general school aids and no per-pupil aids for the first time since Walker’s first budget. They’ve also rejected the urban, suburban, and rural-supported 60% special education reimbursement, instead offering 37.5% during only half the biennium. They are trying to fool Wisconsin voters by raising the ‘high cost’ special needs reimbursement to 90%, but this only includes 3% of special needs students.

“At the state and federal levels, Republicans are refusing to fund bipartisan priorities, including education, childcare, and Medicaid. Instead, they have used their majorities to sow chaos, sabotage our public systems, and funnel money to the rich.”
