Madison – Governor Tony Evers continues to divide Wisconsinites with his exuberance for celebrating lesbian, gay, bi-sexual, transgender, and queer or questioning (LGBTQ) Wisconsinites. In the past two weeks, Evers issued Executive Order #264, raised the Progress Pride Flag over the Wisconsin State Capitol, authorized state buildings to display it, and shared in his weekend radio address that he was “jazzed” to kick off Pride month.
Representative Wichgers released the following statement:
Governor Evers has gone too far. He raised a flag no one understands since it is in constant transition. In 2019, it was the Rainbow Pride flag. Then it was the chevron Progressive Pride flag.
The Pride flag has 32 different varieties and changes, as it did four years ago, according to the current fad of the small but vocal LGBTQIA+ community. Does the flag currently flying over the Capitol purposefully exclude intersex and asexual people since it does not have a yellow background with a purple circle in the center? Does it exclude the “+” people who include two-spirit, non-binary, pansexual, demisexual, aromantic, genderfluid and agender, as explained by the community itself? What are we accepting when we raise it? Does the flag represent transgender people who have de-transitioned?
By raising this flag, Governor Evers makes politics his religion and forces a flag on Wisconsinites who do not and never will support it. Conversely, I would never support a Christian governor flying the Vatican flag or a Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) flag over the Capitol for the same reasons. This is why I co-sponsored a bill to prohibit any flag except the U.S. flag and Wisconsin state flag from being flown outside any state or local government building. Our public flags should unite us, not divide us.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice removed the State of Wisconsin flag on the Risser Justice Building in exchange for a rainbow flag this month, erasing any claim of impartiality for Wisconsinites who do not accept the LGBTQIA+ agenda. This agenda is promoted by 12 Democrats in the Legislature who invited a transgender, self-described queer street preacher who dances in lingerie and flips off his audience, to speak on behalf of their bills.
The State Historical Society made the great and inclusive decision to not fly a Pride flag this month. Tony Evers should take a cue and follow suit.
