MILWAUKEE, WI ā State Representative Sylvia Ortiz-Velez (Dā8th Assembly District) and State Representative Karen Kirsch (D-7th Assembly District) issues a heartfelt statement today following the tragic ambush shooting of two Milwaukee Police Department officers on Thursday, June 26, near N. 24th/25th Place and W. Garfield Avenue.
Two officers were targeted in the line of duty. Officer Kendall Corder, 32, remained critically wounded and tragically passed away on Sunday, June 29, at Froedtert Hospital. Officer Christopher McCray, 29, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was released on Saturday, June 28.
āOur heart breaks alongside the Milwaukee community, the Milwaukee Police Department, and the families of Officers Corder and McCray. Officer Corder made the ultimate sacrifice protecting our neighborhood.ā said Rep. Ortiz-Velez and Rep. Kirsch. āWe are united in mourning his loss, supporting his family, and praying for Christopherās full recovery.ā
The Representatives also commended law enforcement for swiftly apprehending a suspect early Friday, June 27, and reaffirmed their commitment to bolstering public safety through state and local partnerships.
They continued:
