Honorees Include Marquette County Deputy Sheriff Kelsey Morgan, Brittany Walker, Erin Rogers, Melissa Winter, Alejandro Amaya, Mikolaj Amaya, Dylan Moore, Jerry Moore, Mitch Fisher

MADISON, WI – Representative Tony Kurtz (R-Wonewoc) and Representative Alex Dallman (R-Markesan) honored nine individuals with the 2025 Hometown Hero Award for their selfless and brave acts which helped save a life during the 2025 Briggsville Memorial Day Parade. The Representatives issued the following statement.

“I am extremely honored and proud to nominate these nine brave individuals for the Hometown Hero Award,” said Representative Dallman. “Their selfless acts during the Briggsville Memorial Day Parade saved a life. What could have been a tragic loss on Memorial Day turned into a powerful reminder of the strength and readiness of our community.”

The Wisconsin Assembly Hometown Hero Award honors individuals who have made a significant impact on their community through their remarkable acts. Deputy Sheriff Kelsey Morgan, Brittany Walker, Erin Rogers, Melissa Winter, Alejandro Amaya, Mikolaj Amaya, Dylan Moore, Jerry Moore, and Mitch Fisher were honored for saving the life of an American Legion Unit 329 Honor Guard member who collapsed during the 2025 Briggsville Memorial Day Parade. The Legion member was transported via Med Flight to UW Hospital and underwent open-heart surgery and later recovered. Their quick-thinking, teamwork, and brave efforts helped save a life.

“‘A hero is no braver than an ordinary man, but he is brave five minutes longer.’ That’s a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote that fits this extraordinary effort of a community coming together to save the life of one of their own, perfectly,” said Representative Kurtz. “Representative Dallman and I are proud to recognize the individuals who stepped up without hesitation in a moment of need, their ‘five minutes’ of bravery made all the difference.”

The nine individuals were honored at a special ceremony in the Wisconsin Assembly Chambers surrounded by family and friends.
