Green Bay – Yesterday, Governor Tony Evers released his 2025-2027 capital budget. The proposal contains several appropriations for Green Bay and the Green Bay area, including multiple renovations and upgrades on the UW-Green Bay campus. Today, the Governor visited the campus to discuss his investments.
“I am so excited and grateful that Governor Evers recognized the importance of UW-Green Bay to our community and to the entire state. His capital budget will allow for much-needed repairs and renovations that will keep UWGB one of the top values in higher education. I also want to thank the Governor for his commitment to veterans through funding a new housing and recovery facility here in the Green Bay area,” said Rivera-Wagner.
In total, Governor Evers’s capital budget recommends more than $40 million for the UW-Green Bay campus. This includes funding for multiple roof replacements; athletic training room and laboratory renovations; exterior repairs to buildings; and more.
The budget also recommends a new $10 million facility for the state Veterans Housing and Recovery Program (VHRP) in the Green Bay metropolitan area. The VHRP provides temporary housing, training and supportive services to military veterans who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless in order to help them obtain permanent housing. The VHRP is designed to help homeless veterans receive the job training, education, counseling and rehabilitation services needed to obtain steady employment, affordable housing and skills to sustain a productive lifestyle.
The Governor’s capital budget proposal must first be approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature before it becomes law.
