JUNEAU, Wis. — Dodge County Sheriff Dale Schmidt exposes the lies from Susan Crawford, refuting her shameful attacks against Brad Schimel and the Wisconsin Sexual Assault Kit Initiative. The lies peddled by Susan Crawford are an insult to law enforcement and the individuals who worked with Brad Schimel to clear the state’s decades-old backlog of rape kits. Voters deserve to hear the truth:
- The Sexual Assault Kit Initiative was one of the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s biggest accomplishments in recent history, thanks to the leadership of then-Attorney General Brad Schimel.
- Before Brad Schimel was Attorney General, Wisconsin had no formal system in place to process the more than 6,000 untested kits from around the state.
- As Attorney General, Brad worked closely with law enforcement, including Dodge County Sheriff, Dale Schmidt, to clear the backlogged tests and bring closure to victims.
“As a sheriff who has been in office for ten years, I was there when Brad Schimel initiated the Sexual Assault Kit Initiative. He pushed hard to make sure victims of sexual assault were able to see their offenders convicted or identified, and he was the one that instituted this program. Through my years as Sheriff, I’ve seen other people try to take credit for that initiative and it really bothers me that somebody who was so passionate and wanted to continue that work is almost having that work stolen from him. This was Brad Schimel. This was his initiative. This was his work and we as citizens of Wisconsin can be proud of that,” said Dodge County Sheriff, Dale Schmidt.
Unlike Susan Crawford, Brad Schimel has been a champion for law enforcement, which is why he’s been endorsed by over 70 Wisconsin Sheriffs, the Milwaukee Police Association, the Milwaukee Professional Firefighters Association, and the Waukesha County Police Chiefs?Association. Throughout his career, Brad has always put victims first and he will always fight for what is right when he is elected to the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
