Madison– Following last week’s unanimous vote in the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, a bill that aims to attract film production to Wisconsin continued to build momentum with a successful hearing in the Senate Committee on Utilities, Technology, and Tourism.
The bill’s Senate author, Senator Julian Bradley, believes in the bill’s potential to bring investments, jobs, and tourism dollars to Wisconsin.
“We’re already seeing states like Georgia and Illinois use targeted tax credits to attract film and television production to their states – along with significant economic activity,” said Bradley. “I want to see those dollars come to Wisconsin too.”
Under the bill, tax credits would only be released once minimum spending requirements are met and after those expenditures have been documented. This would ensure that the incentives deliver the impact for which they’re intended. It also closes a significant competitive gap for Wisconsin, as the state is currently one of just four operating without a film office or commission, and among only a handful that don’t offer film production incentives.
The bill is expected to receive a committee vote in the Senate in the near future.
