Madison, Wis. — Today, the Wisconsin State Senate voted to adopt a budget for the next two years. State Senator Rachael Cabral-Guevara (R-Fox Crossing) released the following statement.
“No budget is perfect, but the one I voted for today will ensure we live within our means while providing necessary investments in special education, health care, and our community. This budget will provide a lot of good for Wisconsinites while also being fiscally responsible, cutting taxes for folks by over 1.3 billion dollars, and providing critical support to care for folks who want to stay at home through private duty nursing,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara.
The tax cuts include making more people eligible for the second tax bracket, where most taxpayers will benefit. They also include a retirement income exemption up to $48,000 for couples filing jointly. “This will greatly benefit our seniors on fixed incomes, which I was proud to lead the fight on,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara.
The state budget also includes 150 million dollars for the Agricultural Roads Improvement Program (ARIP).
“ARIP benefits communities around the state to support deteriorating roads and bridges, specifically in rural areas,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara. “Originally, the governor proposed a $100 million cut to the program, despite the high demand from our local communities, farmers, and dairy producers.”
“We also cut over 300 state employee positions, reversing the governor’s desire to bloat government even more with 800 new bureaucrats,” Sen. Cabral-Guevara continued. “This budget continues to protect our two-billion-dollar rainy day fund as a cushion for whatever the future may hold.”
“Wisconsin faces real problems that deserve real solutions,” said Sen. Cabral-Guevara. “That is why I voted for a responsible budget that includes historic state investments and a 2027 ending balance of 770 million dollars.”
“Lastly, I also want to extend a thank you to Pastor Ben Terpstra from the Wild Rose Baptist Church for making the trek down to Madison and offering the opening prayer before debate today. He did an excellent job and the entire Senate appreciated his meaningful words,” added Sen. Cabral-Guevara.
