MADISON, WI – Today, in an inspiring display of bipartisanship, the Wisconsin State Senate passed Senate Bill 23, which guarantees all mothers on Medicaid with coverage for a year after giving birth, with only one Senator voting in opposition. Senator Dassler-Alfheim (D-Appleton) released the following statement:
“Despite what some Republican holdouts might think, this is common-sense legislation that has support across party lines, and that’s why it’s been signed into law in every single state in the union – except Wisconsin and Arkansas. We are being left behind, and we are leaving our mothers behind in the process. It’s time to change that,” said the Senator.
The bill, which Democrats have been trying to pass since 2019, will now head to the Assembly to await action by the Assembly Committee on Regulatory Licensing Reform.
