Madison – Today, Senator Drake was appointed by Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein as the Ranking Democrat on the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Service. Senator Drake was also appointed to the Senate Committees on Health; and the Joint Committee on Criminal Penalties. Senator Drake released the following statement:
“Today is a joyous occasion as I am sworn into the office for the 4th Senate District for the next four years. I look forward to continuing working in collaboration on these committees to create tangible solutions for Wisconsinites. I am especially honored to be appointed as ranking member to the Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety. I am eager to leverage my professional experience as a social worker and my previous work on criminal justice policies and safety in the Assembly to enact smart justice policies for the 4th Senate District and Wisconsinites overall.
While serving on the Health Committee in the Assembly, I advocated for reproductive freedoms and health equity to address maternal mortality and infant mortality rates in Wisconsin. Now as Senator, I will continue to fight our reproductive freedoms, health equity, and more while working on the Health Committee.
This session is bound to present significant political challenges, but I remain steadfast in my commitment to defending our common democratic principles for our communities, both within these committees and on the Senate floor.”
Senator Drake was recently elected to the 4th Senate District after serving 4 years in the State Assembly representing the 11th Assembly District. She is also the Assistant Vice Chair of the Senate Democrat Caucus as well as the Chair of the Wisconsin Legislative Black Caucus.
