Madison, WI – Today, Senate Majority Leader Devin LeMahieu announced the creation of the Senate Special Committee on Oversight of the Department of Justice to investigate outside influence at the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ). Senate President Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk) will chair the committee.
Felzkowski issued the following statement:
Wisconsinites deserve a Department of Justice that acts for them, not against them. Outside influence from highly self-interested sources is unacceptable, and the work of this committee over the coming months to determine what is actually happening at DOJ is very important.
It is the Legislature’s duty to ensure that DOJ is faithfully carrying out its duties dictated by Wisconsin law- not outside groups. This is not about politics, it’s about transparency and good governance. I am honored that Majority Leader LeMahieu has entrusted me to chair this special committee.
