MADISON, WI – Today, Governor Tony Evers signed Executive Order #254, creating the statewide Wisconsin Office of Violence Prevention (OVP). The new statewide office will work to coordinate efforts between state and local government agencies, create public education campaigns to boost community safety, and work to identify opportunities to improve Wisconsin’s policies.
The Governor also visited Bear Arms, an indoor boutique shooting range located in Mequon, Wisconsin, to highlight the actions of Executive Order #254.
Senator Jodi Habush Sinykin (D-Whitefish Bay) released the following statement:
“I applaud the Governor’s commitment to public safety, violence prevention, and comprehensive gun safety reform here in Wisconsin. It is vital for agencies and organizations to have the necessary resources to be able to collaborate effectively to find solutions needed to keep our communities safe.
“Every Wisconsinite deserves to feel safe in their communities, schools, workplaces, and homes. I look forward to the proactive work of the Office of Violence Prevention and the impacts it will have throughout Wisconsin.”
