Among the 16 bills signed into law by Governor Evers on Friday, August 8 were SB 152, expanding access to the Alzheimer’s Family and Caregiver Support Program, and AB 257, which creates new avenues for registered nurses to become Advanced Practice Nurses (APRNs) and expands access to healthcare services across Wisconsin.

Senate Democratic Leader Dianne Hesselbein (D-Middleton) released the following statement:

  • “I know firsthand the challenges, stress, and heartbreak families endure as they care for loved ones with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. It was an honor to vote for this bill and to stand with family caregivers, advocates, and former Wisconsin Governor Marty Schreiber who worked tirelessly to ensure more Wisconsin families will be able to afford and obtain services that help ease the burdens of caregiving including respite care, in-home support, and transportation for their loved ones.”
  • “I am heartened to see the Wisconsin Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Modernization Act, which I co-sponsored, signed into law. This law is the product of a long process of bi-partisan negotiation and steadfast advocacy by stakeholders including nurses and physicians. It will increase access to care and address workforce shortages particularly in rural areas as well as improving patient care across our state. Nurses play a critical role in healthcare and by creating a system in Wisconsin that encourages more advanced practitioners, we take a significant step forward.”
