MADISON… The Wisconsin State Senate today passed a Resolution proclaiming June Dairy Month, recognizing the vital role dairy plays in our Wisconsin economy, as well as our state’s heritage, culture, and values.

“Since 1937, June Dairy Month has served as an opportunity for Wisconsinites to celebrate something that’s close to the heart—and the table—of just about every state family,” said State Sen. André Jacque (R-New Franken), author of the measure.  “As the home of America’s Dairyland, Wisconsin doesn’t just produce dairy—we live it, take pride in it, and build communities around it.”

Sen. Jacque said dairy contributes over $53 billion annually to our state’s economy and supports over 120,000 Wisconsin jobs.  Our state leads the nation in cheese production and is a top producer of milk, butter, and other dairy products enjoyed across the country and around the world.

“But what truly makes Wisconsin dairy great isn’t just the products—it’s the people,” Sen. Jacque said.  “It’s the generations of farm families, the dedicated workers, the cheesemakers, the veterinarians, the truck drivers, and the small-town businesses that make up the dairy supply chain.”

Just as important, Sen. Jacque said Wisconsin’s proud family dairy farmers have also built a lasting tradition of stewardship and resilience.

“Our dairy farmers are among the best environmental stewards in the country – not just to protect their livelihoods, but because it’s the right thing to do.”  Sen. Jacque said.  “They employ state-of-the-art practices that conserve our land and water for future generations.”

That’s why June Dairy Month is not just about the past, Sen. Jacque said; it’s also about the future.

“Our forbearers who migrated to Wisconsin as early as the 1840’s saw opportunity and a future in what would soon become known as the Dairy State,” Sen. Jacque said.  “The modern, international Wisconsin dairy industry, built by generations of families over the years, is a testament to their toil and vision.”
