MADISON… The Wisconsin State Senate today passed a Resolution honoring Ellison Bay’s Jerry Apps, a prolific author of more than fifty books that have preserved the stories of country life in the Badger State.
“Thousands of people over three generations have learned about Wisconsin’s dairy and agricultural history thanks to Jerry Apps,” said State Sen. André Jacque (R-New Franken). “Mr. Apps and his books are beloved by Wisconsinites from all walks of life, and I am very proud to call him a constituent of the 1st Senate District.”
Sen. Jacque said Jerry Apps has written over fifty books that highlight Wisconsin’s agricultural history and country living. Through the years, his personal stories and deep knowledge have connected readers to the land and to the hardworking people who built and sustained our rural communities. His writing has inspired countless farmers, families, students, and educators across the state.
“As many of our lives have become centered on urban areas, Jerry Apps’ works are essential reminders of the bedrock rural values and traditions upon which Wisconsin was built,” Sen. Jacque said. “What makes his stories especially engaging are his own lived experiences that draw the reader in and bring this history to life.”
Sen. Jacque said Jerry Apps’ contribution is especially cherished by his fellow farmers and rural Wisconsin residents, who have carried on a way of life, inherited from their parents, that would otherwise be lost in the mist of time.
“This past is relevant today for those of us, especially our young people, who may not have grown up on a farm but want to understand where Wisconsin came from, how it has evolved, and why it’s so special,” Sen. Jacque said. “Jerry Apps reminds us of who we are, and that’s what makes him a Wisconsin treasure.”
The measure honoring Jerry Apps is Senate Joint Resolution 71.
