Madison… Newly released public records reveal Wisconsin taxpayers covered a lavish trade mission for Governor Tony Evers and former Wisconsin Economic Development Corp CEO Missy Hughes to Germany and France; complete with chauffeurs, VIP airport services, and a pricey welcome dinner:

“The Governor claims to be worried about the kids going hungry, but based off his dinner tab, he could not care less! This was not economic development; it was luxury travel on the public dime.

“Beyond the optics of limousines and VIP perks, the administration still hasn’t explained what the trip achieved for Wisconsin families. Despite repeated requests since April, the Governor’s Office and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation have not produced a clear accounting of outcomes.

“There is no list of meetings that led to signed agreements, no commitments for new jobs or investment, and no proof that this travel delivered measurable results.

“Taxpayers deserve a simple explanation: What did we get for the money? If this trip produced real wins, the administration can show them today—who they met, what was agreed to, and what’s coming to Wisconsin as a result. If they can’t, these expenses are indefensible.

“I am calling for immediate disclosure of the trip’s outcomes and the decisions behind the luxury services. I also want an explanation for the months-long delay in releasing routine travel documents that should be in the public record.

“Trade missions should deliver jobs and investment—not photo ops and VIP treatment. I am demanding transparency, accountability, and a stop to junket-style spending. I can’t wait for a new Governor!”
