Madison, WI – Today, the Joint Committee on Employment Relations, jointly chaired by Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R- Rochester) and Senate President Mary Felzkowski (R-Tomahawk), voted to approve pay increases for state employees. These increases were part of the bipartisan state budget enacted in July. Democrats, led by Governor Tony Evers, attempted to circumvent the joint governing process, which would have rendered the raises legally dubious had the committee not acted. Speaker Vos and President Felzkowski issued the following statement:
We are extremely disappointed the governor continues to consolidate executive power, relying on the reckless liberal majority on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to rubber stamp his actions. Today’s vote follows generations of legal precedent that has been unchanged by any court, ensuring that state employees will actually receive their cost-of-living adjustment. Legislative Republicans will continue to respect and abide by the separation of powers.
